The Power of Questions in Coaching
The Right Question Can Change Everything!
Many people come to coaching believing they need answers. They tell me they feel stuck, overwhelmed, uncertain about what comes next, or frustrated that they know what they should be doing but aren’t doing it.
What often surprises them is that coaching isn’t really about finding answers.
It’s about finding better questions.
A question has the power to interrupt our usual thinking patterns. It can challenge assumptions we’ve never questioned, uncover beliefs we’ve been carrying for years, and help us see possibilities that were hidden in plain sight.
For example, instead of asking: “Why can’t I seem to make a change?”
What if we asked: “What is getting in the way of the change I want to make?”
Instead of: “What’s wrong with me?”
What if we asked: “What do I need right now?”
The quality of our lives is often shaped by the quality of the questions we ask ourselves. One of the most valuable things a coach can do is create a space where those questions can emerge.
- Not by giving advice.
- Not by telling someone what to do.
But by helping them slow down, reflect, and explore their thinking from a different perspective.
I’ve found that real transformation rarely comes from being given the right answer. It comes from discovering a question that changes how you see yourself, your situation, or your future.
Sometimes one powerful question can create more change than months of searching for solutions.
What question might you need to ask yourself today?
